Micropep Technologies Strengthens Leadership Team with CBO Appointment
Raleigh, December 5th, 2024—Micropep Technologies (Micropep), the global leader in micropeptide technology, today announced the appointment of Gustavo C. Gonzalez as its Chief Business Officer. Based at the Alexandria Center for AgTech in Research Triangle Park (RTP), North Carolina, USA, Gonzalez will lead the company’s commercialization and partnering strategy efforts for its proprietary Krisalix™ discovery platform and its growing pipeline, including Promisin, a transformative micropeptide solution for crop protection.
Gonzalez brings 20+ years of agribusiness experience in seeds, traits, and crop protection. He has held key leadership roles at global organizations that include Syngenta, Bayer Crop Science, BASF, AgBiome, and, most recently, Bee Vectoring Technologies. His strategic acumen and ability to build relationships across the ag food, feed, and fiber value chains to deliver innovative solutions position him strongly to lead Micropep’s next growth phase.
“We are thrilled to welcome Gustavo to the Micropep team,” said Thomas Laurent, CEO of Micropep Technologies. “His deep understanding of the agricultural industry and his proven success in building high-performing teams and developing go-to-market strategies make him an invaluable leader. With his guidance, we aim to accelerate the adoption of sustainable crop protection solutions that address some of agriculture’s most pressing challenges.”
Gonzalez’s appointment follows Micropep’s successful $40 million Series B funding round, which garnered significant backing from new and existing investors, including BPI Green Tech Ventures, Zebra, Corteva and Sparkfood. This funding will reinforce Micropep’s strategy to advance its R&D platform and global commercialization pipeline.
Micropep’s Krisalix discovery platform is central to this effort. Combining AI-powered micropeptide design algorithms with advanced bioassays enables the rapid discovery of high-potential micropeptide-based active ingredients for sustainable agricultural applications. Promisin, one of the key products in development, underscores this platform’s potential to deliver impactful solutions to pressing agricultural challenges.
Reflecting on his new role, Gonzalez shared, “I’m excited to join Micropep at such a transformative moment in its journey. Micropeptides represent a groundbreaking approach to addressing global agricultural challenges sustainably. I look forward to collaborating with the team to drive strategic partnerships and deliver impactful solutions that meet the evolving needs of farmers and the broader agricultural ecosystem.”
